Grounds for fire equipment conformity assessment

In accordance with Art. 6 of the Republic of Lithuania Law on Conformity Assessment (Official Gazette, 1998, No. 92-2542) and Art. 5 of the Republic of Lithuania Law on Product Safety (Official Gazette, 1999, No. 52-1673), the Republic of Lithuania Government by Resolution No. 1482 ‘Concerning appointment of authorities authorised to approve the mandatory product safety requirements’ of 27 December 1999 (Official Gazette, 1999, No. 114-3304; 2000; No. 48-1393) authorised the Republic of Lithuania Ministry of the Interior (hereinafter the Ministry of the Interior) to approve the legislation setting forth the mandatory product safety requirements for fire and rescue machinery, fire safety equipment, fire prevention measures, and fire automation equipment (hereinafter fire equipment). The Republic of Lithuania Minister of the Interior by Order No. 407 ‘Concerning approval of regulations for the conformity assessment of fire and rescue machinery, fire safety equipment and fire prevention measures’ of 18 October 2000 (Official Gazette, 2000, No. 100-3197; 2009, No. 77-3199) (hereinafter the Regulations) commissioned the Fire Safety and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior (hereinafter the FRD) to organise fire equipment conformity assessment in accordance with the above regulations. The Director of the FRD by Order No. 113 ‘Concerning assignment to perform fire equipment conformity assessment and authorisation to sign fire equipment conformity certificates’ of 15 November 2001 (Official Gazette, 2001, No. 95-3379) commissioned the Fire Research Centre to perform fire equipment conformity assessment and issue fire equipment conformity certificates.

A scope of fire equipment conformity assessment

In the Republic of Lithuania the assessment of fire equipment conformity is carried out by the Certification Service of the Fire Research Centre of the FRD (hereinafter FRC CS) in accordance with the assessment scheme (Fig. 1) adopted in accordance with the regulations. The Republic of Lithuania Minister of the Interior by Order No. 1V-511 of 24 September 2009 ‘Concerning approval of the mandatory safety requirements for fire and rescue machinery, fire safety equipment, fire prevention measures and fire automation equipment’ (Official Gazette, 2009, No. 117-5055) approved a list of fire equipment which falls under the scope of mandatory conformity assessment and includes fire rescue equipment, fire vehicles, fire extinguishing measures, fire extinguishing substances, and fire safety signs. The said list contains a name of fire equipment, indication of a technical specification that sets forth requirements for fire equipment, and mandatory safety requirements.

Accredited activity
